Achilleas G. Papadimitriou

Born in Athens Greece in 1970. Has a PhD in Civil Engineering and is employed as a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly since 2007.

Specialization in Geotechnical Engineering, with emphasis on:

  • constitutive relations of geomaterials,
  • development and use of numerical methods, and
  • earthquake geotechnical engineering.


Studies:

1988-1993 Diploma of Civil Engineering, Specialization on Structural Engineering, National Technical University of Athens Greece (N.T.U.A.), with GPA 8.6 / 10.
1993-1995 M.Sc. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), with GPA 5.0 / 5.0.

2000-2001 Member of a Workgroup of the Technical Chamber of Greece performing the "Analytical estimation of accelerations in the disaster areas of the 7-9-99 Athens earthquake"(Decision Ã/18/33/99).
2002-2007 Department of Design of the Section of Engineering Services of N.T.U.A. - Supervising Engineer of Underground Construction Work in Lavrio Greece
1995-2007 Freelance Civil Engineering Consultant, Geotechnical Engineer, with significant experience:
a) Assessment of geotechnical data from laboratory and insitu testing - foundation design of (simple) structures
b) Design of slopes and embankments (dams) under static and dynamic loading
c) Design of pipelines against seismic motion, fault rupturing and explosions
d) Design of foundations, embankments and pipelines against liquefaction
e) Execution and interpretation of geophysical testing
f) Assessment of effects of soil and topographic conditions on seismic motion (micro-zonation studies)
